Jahanna Blunt, a native of Los Angeles, California, began her dance career as a seven-year-old with Abalaye African Drum and Dance Ensemble. While majoring in acting, she continued to dance throughout her time in high school at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and in college at UCLA's School of Theater Film and Television. Jahanna has had the pleasure of choreographing and/or dancing for Beyonce Knowles, Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae and Kevin Hart, among other world-renowned entertainers. She has been program director for Rhythm Arts Alliance Non-Profit since 2016, and a company member and dance captain for Viver Brasil Dance Company since 2013. She is also in the process of receiving her certification in Dunham Technique training. Jahanna is proud to follow in the footsteps of her parents, elders and ancestors, spreading knowledge of her culture and history through music and dance. The creation of Le Ballet Dembaya is one of her proudest accomplishments to date. She feels blessed to be able to pursue her passion as a career and looks forward to a bright future.
She has studied with some great master teachers including (but not limited to), Mareme Faye, Malang Bayo, Youssouf Koumbassa, Moustapha Bangoura, Babacar N'Diaye, Aziz Faye, Marietou Camara, Mouminatou Camara, Abdoulaye Sylla, Dadisi Sanyika, Djeneba Sacko, Mabiba Baegne, Mamady Sano, Vera Passos, Luis Badaro, Rosangela Sylvestre, Katherine Dunham, Walter Nicks, Vanoye Aikens, Theo Jamison, Lady Walquer, Rachelle Tavernier, Dr Glory Van Scott, Ruby Streate, Dr Albirda Rose, Otis Sallid, Eartha Robinson, big sister Kara Mack, big brother Jeffery Page, and Mom and Dad, Jan and Eugene Blunt.
